Well today is Friday, and it has been another hectic week. I am always glad when the weekend comes, I usually manage to get a lie in until 9am.
Ive learned lots of things this week, most of all Ive been reminded of how strong the human spirit is, and the will to keep going whatever the trauma is that presents itself when we are least expecting it.
I have colleagues battling with cancer at the moment, and their strength amazes me. I am also amazed by the kind hearted generosity of people with very little to offer, but who usually give the most.
I have been very saddened by the atrocities in Norway. How anyone can say that this man is mentally ill is beyond me. He has pre-meditated and planned to the finest detail what he was going to do. He shows no remorse and seems to think it is ok?!!
I now that Norway is a democratic free country, but I bet there are a few wishing they had the death sentence right now...not just 21 YEARS!!!!!
I have been a nurse for 30 years in October. Doesnt seem quite real when I say that. I feel like I have at least another 30 to give yet.. Gosh I could retire in 4 years if I wanted, as I have protected Mental Health Officer status. What would I do then though?
I have too much to do at the moment. I am managing a very large care centre, with a multi level integrated care systems in place. Day centre, dementia care (residential and nursing), general nursing, intermediate care unit and hopefully domicillary care and outreach services later this year.
It is a very exciting (although sometimes stressful) job, with so much opportunity to progress and develop care services as they should be. I have always been very passionate about my work with older people, and it seems I will be one of them quite soon (but not in my head ) so I am a bit selfish I suppose, as I hope that if I can offer the highest quality care now, that I may receive the same when it is my turn
The next week is going to be hectic too as we have a summer fete on Saturday... so much organising and planning. Should be good fun though and hopefully we will raise loads of money for the residents fund.
Well even though its Friday my bed is calling me. 50+ hours a week tell on the old body by friday, an anyway I definitely need my beauty sleep.
Till Next week x
